Introducing Lōkahi Leadership Solutions

I’m excited to announce the launch of Lōkahi Leadership Solutions,  a leadership consulting firm that focuses on leadership development, team cohesiveness and coaching solutions.  The word “Lōkahi” is Hawaiian in origin and means unity, accord and harmony.  We believe that organizations and teams can get more done in less time when they effectively collaborate with each other.

As the owner and founder of Lōkahi Leadership Solutions, I’m starting this firm after 15 plus years of leadership experience working for Fortune 500 companies.  Through my experience as a member of five different leadership teams as a Human Resources Director, I’ve gained a solid working knowledge of leadership, teamwork, managing conflict and achieving results.

Of the five leadership teams that I was a part of, four were very successful.  The financial performance, operational efficiency and employee engagement scores of these four organizations were very positive.  However, one of these leadership teams was not.  If you were to compare this team to the concepts in the New York Times best-selling book, “The Five Dysfunctions of a Team” by Patrick Lencioni, we were highly dysfunctional.  With this team, there was an absence of trust, a fear of conflict, a lack of commitment, no accountability and a disregard for results.

The four leadership teams that were successful were effective because they focused on the five behaviors of cohesive teams of trust, conflict, commitment, accountability and results. But what absolutely cemented in my mind and heart that these behaviors were critical was my experience on the dysfunctional team.  I witnessed that if a leadership team is not cohesive, the organization will not be successful.

The great news is there are steps an organization can take to become cohesive, starting with the leadership team.  And I’m not talking about touchy feely activities but actual researched-based practices that will help your team achieve more.
